Description
Built by David and Thoman Stevenson, Scurdie Ness Lighthouse, also known as Montroseness Lighthouse, was first lit on March 1, 1870 due to numerous shipwrecks in Montrose Harbour. During World War II, the lighthouse was painted black and only used at the request of the Royal Navy, so that it couldn't be used by German bombers. Today, the lighthouse is a site of historical interest and is listed in the Royal Commission of the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland.
