Description
Located near Oban, Scotland's Dunstaffnage Castle is a true defensive structure built by Clan MacDougall in the thirteenth century to guard the entrance to Loch Etive. Some of the walls of this amazing historical structure are more than ten feet thick. However, during Scotland's Wars of Independence, it was captured Robert the Bruce in the early 1300s. Clan Campbell took control of the royal fortress on behalf of the crown in the fifteenth century and still owns it today, however the castle is in state care and maintained by Historic Scotland.
